The Role of Faith in Farming

The Role of Faith in Farming

Apr 29, 2025Daniel Lyons

Farming is an act of faith.

Every season, seeds go into the ground, trusting that the rain will come, the sun will shine, and the harvest will be plentiful. We work the land, tend to the cattle, and pour our energy into something that is never truly in our control. It’s a lesson in patience, humility, and trust—one that mirrors the very nature of faith itself.

Farming isn’t just a job. It’s a calling. A daily opportunity to steward what we’ve been given with gratitude, to trust in what we cannot see, and to recognize that every blessing—whether in abundance or hardship—comes from God.

Trusting in What We Cannot See

Farming teaches dependence on something greater than ourselves. No amount of planning or preparation can guarantee the perfect season. The rain may not come when we expect it. The frost may arrive too soon. The harvest may be less than we hoped.

And yet, we plant. We prepare. We work.

It’s the same kind of faith we are called to live out every day. To trust, even when we can’t see the outcome. To believe, even when the road is uncertain.

Caring for What We’ve Been Given

Farming is more than just producing food—it’s a responsibility. To care for the land, the animals, and the people who depend on it.

The land, the cattle, the ability to do this work—it’s all a gift, and we are merely stewards of it. That means:

  • Raising our cattle with care and integrity

  • Treating the land with respect, not exploitation

  • Feeding families with food that truly nourishes

In the same way that we tend to the fields, we are called to tend to our faith—to cultivate it, nurture it, and trust that, in time, it will bear fruit.

Farming as Worship

The beauty of this life is that the work itself is an act of worship.

To rise before dawn and care for the cattle.
To watch the sun set over the fields after a long day.
To provide good, honest food for families to gather around.

Every moment is a reminder of God’s provision and faithfulness.

Farming is rooted in the seasons, in the rhythms of creation, in the cycle of planting, growth, and harvest. And just like faith, it requires patience, perseverance, and a willingness to trust in what we cannot always see.

Sowing More Than Seeds

At Little Mountain Farm & Cattle Co., we don’t just raise cattle. We cultivate something deeper. A connection to the land, to the food we eat, and to the faith that sustains us.

Because at the end of the day, farming isn’t just about what we harvest—it’s about what we sow.

Hard work. Good stewardship. Gratitude for the land we’ve been entrusted with.

And faith that, no matter the season, God is always faithful.

Join us in supporting farm-raised, pasture-fed beef—raised with care, purpose, and faith at the heart of it all.
